The world’s largest stock exchange, the New York Stock Exchange, filed a new trademark application registering the term “NYSE” for different cryptocurrency services, including non-fungible tokens.
NYSE application covers: “downloadable virtual goods, namely, non-fungible tokens; blockchain-based non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and NFT collectible series; digital media, namely, digital collectibles, digital tokens, non-fungible tokens (NFTs), cryptocurrencies, and digital art”.
In a Tweet today, on February 15th, trademark attorney Michael Kondoudis revealed the information about the NYSE trademark application.
The NYSE filed the application on February 10th, with the statement to register the trademark as “provision of an online marketplace for buyers, sellers, and traders of downloadable digital assets authenticated by non-fungible tokens (NFT)” and “Financial exchange of virtual currency in the field of digital currency, virtual currency, cryptocurrency, digital tokens, crypto tokens, utility tokens, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) … cryptocurrency trading services.”
The number of companies and brands applying for trademarks in the Metaverse has rapidly increased. On February 14, fast-food giant, McDonald’s, has filled twelve trademarks for virtual restaurants and services.
In addition, American lingerie brand Victoria’s Secret’s applied for four trademark applications with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The fashion brand plans to sell virtual lingerie, footwear, bags, and fashion accessories.
The term “metaverse” refers to a computer-generated virtual space where individuals gather and interact. It seems that more and more brands have been seeing the potential of entering the metaverse and have decided to explore the option.
